My first grader has been having a great time with his reading and the crafts to go along with it! Our latest book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, has been a lot of fun. This fish bowl craft has been the perfect addition to our reading time!
I love reading with my kids. First grade is especially fun because they know their letter sounds well and they just take off with it! This has been true with my current first grader and it’s been a blast seeing his reading blossom.
We are currently reading One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, which is a part of my First Grade Reading List. I had found a really cute fish bowl craft to go with it. This particular craft called for corn syrup, which we don’t keep in our house. So, trying to think as quickly as I could, I figured we could just use good old school glue to get the job done! It worked beautifully.
I traced a fish bowl for my son to cut out on construction paper (I’m not an artist, so my free hand fish bowl was perfect first grade level). He then drew and cut his fish out (or you can draw them for your child to cut…whatever is best for them!) I love the cute little smiles he added to them!
I tried to encourage him to do one fish, two fish, a red fish, and a blue fish. But, three yellow, two green, and a blue fish is what he decided on. Whatever, kid. Let your creativity shine and do you!
Since there’s already glue on the paper he was able to stick the fish on as soon as he was done.
And, that’s it! A super cute and simple craft to go along with a fun and popular book.
Craft time doesn’t have to be long and difficult. He had so much fun with it, even though it was really simple. This craft used a slightly different substance than just using paint, which made it exciting and new.
